The Lions Club in Didsbury is involved in many projects including Show and Shine, the Trade Show, Christmas Tree Chip-off, an annual playhouse raffle, and the popular Soap Box Derby.

Soap Box Derby

This one's for the kids. Build a soap box car and race in our derby.Our aim is to improve the communities in which we live. With that in mind, one of the "most fun" things the Lions do is host the annual Soap Box Derby on the Saturday of the Father's Day weekend. In 2012, that date is June 16th.

There are classes for Juniors (8 - 13 years of age), and Seniors (14 - 17 years of age), and an Open class for ages 8-18. Soapbox must fit on the ramp, 3' x 6'. The purpose of this event is "FUN"!

The Soap Box Derby itself begins with registration and safety checks, and then the excitement begins!

Soapbox kits for the 2011 races are available from George. Call 403-335-4482 or 403-507-1532. Kits are available for $70.

If you would like some tips and tricks for maneuvering your vehicle, contact Brent Hougestol at 403-335-4300. He can help you with construction tips, fine-tuning your steering and brakes, and help you assemble your soap box into a racing machine!
